The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn Chapter 1 (First Paragraph) No reason!

You don't know about me, without you have read a book by the name of "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer," but that ain't no matter. That book was made by Mr. Mark Twain, and he told the truth, mainly. There was things which he stretched, but mainly he told the truth. That is nothing. I never seen anybody but lied, one time or another, without it was Aunt Polly, or the widow, or maybe Mary. Aunt Polly--Tom's Aunt Polly, she is--and Mary, and the Widow Douglas, is all told about in that book--which is mostly a true book; with some stretchers, as I said before.

Doing Some Drawings: Angel Guy

A while back I started an online drawing course. For no good reason, I'm going to post my starting image here. It came out better than I expected but man it took a while. I couldn't finish it in one sitting but I used some non-photo blue to build the construction lines, which you can still see.

Still looks a little stunted to me: I think I was overshooting on the pose and with the wings. I made his butt too large and I need more shading on the foreshortened arm. Also, just to reiterate, I don't know how to draw wings.

Newsletters and Upcoming

I've started a newsletter sign up for writing under Kyle John Morgan. If you're interested in hearing about my upcoming releases or receiving free electronic copies of the books as a beta reader or for review that's the place to go.

As I've indicated before, I should have my first book under this pen name(my real name) coming out in April, I'm going to need some feedback, though, so drop me a line if you're interested in helping out with that or exchanging beta reads.

Khan Academy has Updated their Pixar in a Box series

I've been following this course for a while.

I'm a big fan of Pixar and their movies. I'm also a fan of Khan Academy and the way that they organize information so that anyone can learn new things.

This addition should be of particular interest to any writers in who come across my blog because it focuses on Pixar's storytelling.

Check out the course at Khan Academy and let me know what you think.

Brainstorming and outlining with Pinterest

In case you haven't tried it. Pinterest can be very helpful when you are stuck on your plot. All that you need to do is try searching under various categories that sound like the genre in which you are interested in writing.

You should create a new board and probably keep it secret because--depending on what you're writing--anyone who follows you might think you've gone crazy.
When I'm trying to create my storylines and I'm feeling a little stuck I use Pinterest to find images that could potentially reflect scenes that I want to include. Sometimes this takes the form of art of fantasy cities, while other times it takes the form of an emotive face or character.
Also if you haven't looked on Pinterest for writing advice, a lot of authors and hobbyists post articles from their blogs with images that they've found or created for this purpose.
Below I'll include a link to the board that I've been adding to for the last few years whenever I find myself …

Intro from an abandoned project

This isn't a complete scene. I kind of like how it turned out but I'm going to abandon this project for right now; so, I thought I'd put it here for anyone that wanted to read it. This is the first draft FYI.

The drab, brown tent stood out at the carnival. It was in stark contrast to the brightly colored, flashing, and noisy carnival which surrounded it. But Alissa’s eyes were drawn to the wooden shingle hanging from the post out front of it.
It read as follows:
Fortunes told, deceased loves contacted, and magic performed for a fee
Mystical Magical Merina
And then in the largest letters, “CURSES!”
The courtroom events of the last week had drained Alissa and she didn't fully think through what she did next.
She pulled back the flap of the tent and ducked her head as she stepped through. She pressed her other hand around her recently stomach, cradling her recently emerged baby bump.
Alissa’s nose was filled with a pleasant aroma: there were hints of dark wood, cinnamon,…

20,000 words this week and other nonsense

I'm trying something new this week. Mostly because I managed to break a new personal record for words written in one day and I didn't even have dedicated time to write. I wrote in the morning, I wrote on my lunch hour, I wrote in the evening, and I wrote at night. I think that I clocked in somewhere around 5500 words--or 5,500 words if you prefer.

For today--Tuesday--the day was a little more complicated so I'm only sticking around 2,100 words as of right now.

This is probably a ridiculous goal, but I think that I'm going to shoot for 20,000 words this week. Yesterday 1,000 of those words were on a separate project that, in all likelihood, will never see the light of day. The other 4500, though, were for a project that I will probably self-publish under one of my pen names.

Anyways, I just thought that I would declare my goal for the internet.

One of the big reasons for my increase in output has to do with the fact that instead of writing for the last week or two, I…

New Year's Status

Here's a quick update on things that have been going on. I've been pretty silent on this blog lately. I have another secret blog that I made using another email address and creating a second email account: very sneaky eh?
Anyways, I'm not going to tell you what that blog is. I've started publishing some things under a pen name. I have a domain and everything; I even paid extra to have GoDaddy keep it secret.
I'm sure that you could figure out the pen name with a little effort. I'm not killing myself to hide it but I'd appreciate it if you didn't look. I am planning on releasing a few projects onto Amazon this year under my actual name: Kyle J Morgan -- or Kyle John Morgan.
I guess I should make that decision.
At the same time, I've started a blog about my progress on learning to code. I haven't purchased a custom domain for that one yet; there's a link to it in the list of pages on this blog. If you have any interest in staying up to dat…
