How I Learned to Clean my Blender and Change my Life And You Can Too

I think that's probably the longest blog title that I've ever used but I'm going to go with it because I'm blogging without an agenda.

Before I start I'd like to say that if you know why this is a bad way to clean my blender I (equal parts) want to know and don't want to know.

A few weeks ago my wife purchased some protein supplements from GNC. I've always like the idea of protein smoothies - 1. because I know that I don't get enough protein and 2. YEAH SMOOTHIES!

I kept wanting to jump on the bandwagon to simultaneously increase my fruit and vegetable intake with more protein. The only problem was I couldn't be bothered to read the instructions to find out how much of the powder to include in said smoothie.

The other problem was the ridiculous amount of time that is required to actually clean my blender. You have to unscrew the thing and remove the other thing, Oh! and don't lose that rubber ring - thing.

This is close enough to ours. Ours is probably about 5 years older though. Can you blend apples?

I recently heard from someone who has a blender that's much more expensive than our Hamilton Beach blender that they can clean theirs simply by running it with hot soapy water in the blendy part.

Not long after I found out that my wife was doing that. Mind blown. I had an epiphany - Lightning had just struck my brain.

I think that I probably made at least 3 or 4 smoothies this weekend and they were all pretty good even though I used varying amounts of that grotesque protein powder. The inclusion of whole fat yogurt and honey seemed to improve the taste quite a bit.

I could go into my hatred for low fat dairy products but that will likely be a future post.

In closing, I am now going to be significantly increasing my intake of fruits and vegetables with the occasional inclusion of protein powder. I'll let you know if this makes much of a difference in my life in the coming weeks.

Good luck with whatever it is you are trying to do! Night Night or Morning - whatever.
